A stochastic continuum model of dislocation transport is introduced to investigate the formation of heterogeneous dislocation patterns in the simplest case (plane strain, single slip). A stochastic cellular automaton implementation is introduced to study the dynamics of formation of the patterns predicted by a linear stability analysis of the continuum model.
